"I had a need for some orientation on my new boat, a 42 foot Sundancer. I had some familiarity with the Intracoastal Waterway but not so much in coastal cruising. I contacted Captain Roy and he was willing and gracious and our schedules were compatible. He spent time on navigation principles, electronic navigation and talked specifically about the need for redundant systems while at sea in the event of an equipment failure. We charted and I fixed my position while out of sight of land, in fact, we were close to 200 miles off shore. I identified waypoints before the fact and followed each of them on the trip back. It was particularly gratifying to me to develop a skill that I did not have. Captain Roy was knowledgeable and yet not pushy. He is very capable, has extensive awareness and I recommend him highly."
